Chipmunks

Chipmunks are very small, only growing to be between 2 and 6 inches in length and weighing less than a pound. They will live for a few years and the females will have two litters each year- one in the spring and one in the late summer - with 2-7 babies in each litter. The babies will leave the burrow after about 6 weeks and become independent quickly thereafter. Chipmunks are solitary creatures, usually only coming together to mate or when raising young.
They live in underground burrows, which can become quite large. They use these burrows to store food for the winter as they enter periods like hibernation, but need to wake up to eat. They can cause a lot of damage to gardens and even to houses as they dig these burrows by destroying plant roots and weakening the structural integrity of foundations and porches.
