Acrobat Ants

Acrobat ants are a typical 3-section ant bodied insect, but are specifically identifiable by their heart-shaped abdomen. There are several species of acrobat ants but all will raise their abdomen above their thorax and head when aggravated. Most acrobat ants are very small, measuring less than an 1/8th of an inch long.
Most acrobat ants are black to yellowish-brown, but can be multicolored (like having a reddish head like in the picture above). Acrobat ants have a stinger, six legs, and multi-segmented antennae. They feed on honeydew excretions from other insects and will also eat live and dead insects. If they are inside your home, they'll be drawn to meat and sugary foods. These ants are most active between June and October.
Acrobat ants can be sign of water damage in your home, as they like to exploit damaged wood and create even larger cavities. They will also strip electrical and telephone wires, causing outages and fire hazards in your home.
